Living Time is calling on the most active and influential IFA firms in the UK to lend their weight to the 'Offer More Options' campaign that seeks to introduce innovative thinking to the £14bn retirement income market.

The retirement income specialist is calling for a “campaign for change” to prevent so many consumers locking into lifetime annuities at the point of retirement without ever being aware of higher paying income plans or more flexible alternatives.

“Nine out of 10 retirees buy a lifetime annuity, usually at the point of retirement and in most cases without exploring their Open Market Option,” said Dave Harris, Living Time’s Managing Director of Sales and Marketing.

“Many in the industry share our view that these people might have chosen differently if they had realised the drawbacks of locking in to fixed benefits too early, and had been made aware of other options providing not only income but also the flexibility to cope with issues such as failing health.”
